WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today at his weekly news conference, Coach C.B. McGrath spoke about his teams recent struggles and how they can still make it back to the conference title game if they have a big final regular season week.
In the final two regular season games, there is still plenty to play for. The team will travel to William & Mary and to Drexel, two games they need to win if they want to be set up in a good position in the conference tournament. If UNCW finishes in sixth or better, they earn a first game bye. If not, they must win four games in four days to win the conference tournament.
Coach C.B. McGrath says there has been teams, like UConn who has not only done this, but gone on to win the NCAA Tournament, but it doesn’t just happen. He says UNCW must play well in their last few games to carry momentum into the postseason.
“You just can’t wait to all of the sudden turn on a switch and start playing good the week of the conference tournament,” Coach McGrath said. “You have to do some things before hand, which we have. We’ve played a lot better the last ten or eleven games of the season than we did the first ten or eleven games of the season.”
Coach adds that his guys need to find the energy they have at home and bring it on the road.
To this point in the season, UNCW is 1-10 on the road and there are no games at Trask Coliseum in sight.
