WILMINGTON, North Carolina (UNCWSports.com) – UNCW celebrated the completion of renovations to Boseman Field on Wednesday afternoon, but visiting NC State spoiled the party as the Wolfpack earned a 4-2 victory over the Seahawks in non-conference softball action on Wednesday afternoon.
The loss dropped the Seahawks’ record to 4-6 on the season while NC State upped its mark to 11-5 after winning for the seventh time in its last eight games.
Sophomore first baseman Haylee Kobziak paced the Wolfpack’s nine-hit attack with two hits, including her first home run of the season, with a pair of runs scored. Freshman catcher Lily Bishop and sophomore designated player Haley Finn each added two hits.
Sophomore Devin Wallace improved to 6-3 in the circle after allowing one earned run on six hits over six innings with nine strikeouts. Junior Brittany Nimmo secured her first save of the season after pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
Junior Laurel Koontz suffered the loss for UNCW after allowing two runs on three hits in the first inning.
Key Moment: NC State scored twice in the first inning and added two more runs in the fifth inning to build a 4-0 lead the Wolfpack did not relinquish. UNCW tallied a run in the fifth and sixth innings, but was unable to get any closer.
