BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A new substance abuse treatment facility will open soon in Brunswick County, but this one will be the first of its kind.
The Executive Director of the Shallotte Treatment Associates said this will be the first methadone treatment center in Brunswick County.
The open house today gave the community an opportunity to learn about the outpatient center. It will be set up for 300 patients and you can walk in without an appointment if necessary. It’s also self pay. Community members and the Executive Director said this is a major need in this area.
“We’ve already had individuals call and individuals stopping by. We had a guy stop by say hey, this is my name and I’m going to be your first patient. They are questioning when are you going to open, when are you going to open,” Executive Director Miranda Ricker said.
“I’m just glad that there’s a place for people to come to that live closer, live in this area because there are so many people who can’t get to Wilmington so they’re still stuck in that cycle of addiction,” resident Lauren Lofland said.
The new treatment center is on Main Street. Ricker said they should open in the next few weeks.
