Public hearing planned in Carolina Beach for beach nourishment study

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is holding a public meeting in Carolina Beach on Tuesday night to discuss beach nourishment projects through 2029, if funds are available.

Currently, the Army Corps of Engineers is authorized for beach nourishment projects in Carolina Beach through 2020, as a federal participation/cost sharing project.

They are now preparing a Carolina Beach Coastal Storm Risk Management Beach Renourishment Evaluation Report to determine if Federal interest exists in extending Federal participation/cost sharing in period nourishments through 2029.

The public meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at Carolina Beach Town Hall to gather public input for the study and environmental assessment. Potential impact to fisheries, threatened and endangered species, water quality, air quality, and potential hazardous and toxic wastes will be discussed.

Comments and concerns raised at this meeting will be considered during the preparation of the study and environmental assessment.
