Students in Columbus County charged with school threat, threatening a student


COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) –  A 12-year-old is accused of making a threat of violence against a Columbus County school. We reached out to the sheriff’s office for more information.

According to the incident report, it happened yesterday near Columbus Charter School on Education Lane. School officials tell us the incident happened after school hours and at a  nearby McDonald’s. The incident report confirms it happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday evening. He is charged with communication of threats of mass violence on educational property.

That same day another 12-year-old was charged with bringing a weapon on school property and threatening another student. The incident report for the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened during the school day at Chadbourn Elementary.

The weapon was a pocket knife according to the report. It’s unclear how the student communicated threats, but the report says there was an 11-year-old victim. The 12-year-old faces two charges, bringing a weapon onto school property and communicating threats.
