WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Nicole Coley is a Special Needs teacher at New Hanover High School who says her students are more like family.
She can have students for up to 8 years and during that time she does everything from teach, to lift them from spot to spot, to feed, read to and take on outings. Most of all she says you want to “make sure their needs are met and make sure they are happy.”
“They can do stuff on their own. They are their own person. They have a great personality,” she says, “you just need to get to know them.”
Her favorite thing about her work is what she gets back from her students. “They don’t see the bad and negative in the world,” she says, “it makes you happy to see their smiling faces.”
