CAA Honors UNCW’s De Rueda For Singles Play


WILMINGTON, North Carolina ( – Sophomore Ignasi de Rueda has been named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Men’s Tennis Player-of-the-Week after reeling off three straight singles wins last week for the streaking Seahawks.

De Rueda, from Barcelona, Spain, helped the Seahawks improve to 11-2 with his stellar play in singles. He outlasted Bryant’s Artur Jakubowski, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles, rallied past UT-Chattanooga’s Pablo Llebeili, 2-6, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles and won in straight sets against UNC Greensboro’s Ollie Palmer, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 2 position.

De Rueda, the reigning CAA Rookie-of-the-Year, has won four consecutive singles matches and owns a 10-3 singles record this spring.

The Seahawks, who have won 11 of their last 12 outings, return to the courts on Friday with a 2 p.m. match against UNC Charlotte at the UNCW courts.
