WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s been a good week for UNCW golfer Blake McShea.
The sophomore from Zebulon won his first collegiate tournament and helped UNCW win the Seahawk Intercollegiate over the weekend. Today the Colonial Athletic Association named him Golfer of the Week.
McShea, who carded par or better rounds despite cold and windy conditions, won medalist honors with a four-under-par score for his third top-three finish of the season. The sophomore transfer had 12 birdies and paced the tournament in Par 5 scoring, finishing seven-under on those holes for a 4.42 average.
For McShea, it’s his fourth CAA weekly honor, having also been named Golfer of the Week on Sept. 13, Oct. 11 and Feb. 21. UNCW has won the honor on seven occasions this year.
McShea became the first Seahawk to win the Intercollegiate since 2013 when Payne McLeod topped the field while also leading the Seahawks to the tournament title.
UNCW plays its final tune-up before the conference tournament when they compete in the Clemson Invitational on Apr. 13-15. The CAA tournament will be played in Raleigh at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Apr. 20-22.
