WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Work is underway in Whiteville to build their new city hall.
According to the city’s website, the 1938 U.S. Post Office served as city hall for decades, but was closed in 2014 due to mold, lead, asbestos, and structural concerns.
The building was demolished to make way for the new city hall, a project that will cost nearly $3 million.
Columbus Street is closed at Madison Street and the police and fire departments can be accessed from Franklin Street.
The new city hall is expected to be ready by February.
