It marks the only the fourth time in NCAA history than an NCAA Division I player has finished first in separate statistical categories in back-to-back years. Jason Kidd (California), Shaquille O’Neal (LSU) and Stephen Sir (Northern Arizona) are the only other players to achieve the feat.

“Devontae has an appetite to rebound that I have not seen in my 19 years of coaching college basketball,” said UNCW Head Coach C.B. McGrath. “I have been around some record-breaking rebounders and his mentality and determination to secure the board is unmatched. He goes to the boards every possession is a joy to watch.

“Devontae has been coachable from the first day I took the job. He showed tremendous improvement in his overall game and had a huge season this year. He works every day to get better and we look forward to developing his skillset for another year.”

A 6-7, 240-pound junior who paced the NCAA-I’s 351 teams with 80 percent from the floor in 2016-17, Cacok led the nation in rebounds per game this year and finished with 431 rebounds, second only to Jones (450) in total boards. Cacok also wound up leading the country in offensive caroms at 5.06 as the Seahawks finished fifth in the nation in offensive rebounding.

The Riverdale, Ga., product set a UNCW single season record with his 431 total and grabbed the third most rebounds in a single CAA season behind Navy’s David Robinson (455 in 1985-86) and Hofstra’s Rokas Gustys (442 in 2015-16).

Cacok had 20 or more rebounds three times, including 24 vs. James Madison on Jan. 25, 2018, and pulled down at least 10 rebounds in 23-of-32 games.
