WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — They may not be as prestigious as Wimbledon, but the tennis courts at Wrightsville Beach Park will work just fine if you want to hit that fuzzy yellow ball.
Wrightsville Beach Parks and Recreation is offering tennis lessons, coached by Jackie Jenkins. She says it’s a great sport to get involved in if you want some good cardio.
“Tennis is a lifetime sport,” Jenkins said. “It’s not too hard on your body. Very good, easy game to get some exercise very quickly and there’s a ton of courts around too.”
For the kids that Jenkins coaches, it’s all about the fun of the game.
“For the little ones when they’re starting out, I like to make it fun with a lot of fun games and at the same time, introducing good technique and movement. They love to move at that age,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins says some adults that sign up for the lessons just want to shake off some rust. Others are playing the game for the first time. Jenkins says the lessons can spark a lifelong interest.
“After all the programs, there’s a lot of leagues that can be played and ladders,” Jenkins said. “There’s a lot of tennis to be played, where people can pick it up.”
For six hours of Jenkins’ coaching, it’ll cost you $60 if you are a Wrightsville Beach resident. Non-residents can sign up for $70.
