Royalty (4-4), who earned his first win since Mar. 16 against Quinnipiac, allowed a pair of runs in the first inning, but gathered himself and shut out the Tigers over the next 5 2/3 innings before exiting in the seventh inning. He finished with six strikeouts, walked one and scattered five hits.

Reliever Justin Walke earned his first save with the Seahawks, striking out four over the final 2 1/3 innings.

Meadows, who extended his hitting streak to seven games, held team-high honors with two hits, including a two-run single in UNCW’s four-run third inning.

Zack Canada scored twice and Mason Berne drove in two runs for UNCW.

Alex Cuas (0-3) was saddled with the loss after walking seven and allowing five runs, four earned, in four innings of work. Reliever Matt Watters struck out five, walked one and allowed one hit over four innings.

Mark Grunberg collected three hits for Towson, including a double.

The Tigers out-hit the Seahawks, 7-4.

Up next: The series continues on Saturday with a 2 p.m. start. Freshman Landen Roupp (0-1, 3.03 ERA) will get the ball for UNCW and Towson will send senior David Marriggi (2-4, 4.13 ERA) to the hill.

How it happened: The Seahawks drew five walks in the third inning as they took a 4-2 lead. UNCW opened the inning with three consecutive walks and Berne plated the first run with a fielder’s choice. A walk to Cole Weiss loaded the bases again and Kep Brown‘s free pass plated the game-tying run. Meadows followed later in the inning with a two-run single to give the Seahawks a 4-2 lead.

Notes: Walke is the third Seahawk to earn a save this season, joining Clark Cota (8) and Austin Easter (1) … Berne has now reached base safely in 31 consecutive games, moving into a tie with Thomas Pope (2011-12) for sixth longest in UNCW history … The win was number 21 for Royalty, who is now tied for 11th all-time at UNCW with Mat Batts (2012-14) and Daniel Cropper (21-14) … Meadows is hitting .333 (8-24) during his seven-game hitting streak.
