Police: Body of child swept away in Outer Banks found

KITTY HAWK, NC (WWAY) — The body of the boy who was swept away by a rogue wave last week in Kitty Hawk has been found.

Kitty Hawk Police Chief Joel Johnson says the body of of Wesley Belisle was located by the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office on Carova Beach in Currituck County.

The 4-year-old’s body was found at 7:40 a.m. His family has been notified and are making arrangements for him to be transported back to New Hampshire.

“We hope that the outpouring of compassion and offers of support, thoughts and prayers to the Belisle family from people all over the world can bring them some amount of solace in this time of tremendous grief,” Chief Johnson wrote in a Facebook post.

On Wednesday, the boy and his mother were walking on the beach when he was swept away.

Officials say the mother lost sight of her son as he went further from the shore. Police say the family was vacationing from New Hampshire, and the boy was their only child.
