COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An argument at Tabor Correctional Institution turned into a fight that left three correctional officers injured.
The NC Department of Public Safety says it happened Thursday at 11:00 p.m.
According to a news release, an inmate refused orders and went into the dayroom area.
Several other inmates became involved. Prison staff gained control of the situation and operations returned to normal in 12 minutes, officials say.
Outside medical attention was required for three staff members, due to direct assault or injury while responding. They were released with non-life-threatening injuries.
None of the offenders needed outside medical treatment.
The Tabor City Police Department was notified and responded Thursday night.
DPS will seek charges against the inmates. DPS is also investigating.
The facility was not locked down.
On April 4, five inmates attacked another with some type of homemade weapon and also placed a padlock inside a sock to use as a weapon.
