WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –The annual Memorial Day observance aboard the Battleship North Carolina has been cancelled due to the rain and flooding.
It would have been the 57th annual observance since 1962. The ceremony is usually held on the deck, but because of the rain, they planned to hold it under a tent at Battleship Park.
Battleship Marketing Director Meaghan Holmes says the park where the tent is set up is now flooding, so for public safety, they don’t want anybody out if they don’t need to be.
The ship is still open for tours.
The Battleship is now operating on summer hours. It will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
