Wilmington runners receive college scholarships

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Academy students may be out for the summer, but Wednesday marked a special occasion for one senior who is about to make her way to the Ivy League.

On Wednesday the Wilmington Road Runners Club presented Dani Kranchalk with a $1,000 scholarship.

The Wilmington Road Runners Club said when giving the award they look for two students with a passion for running, outstanding leadership and community service.

Dani was the CFA Cross Country captain. She was just named Cape Fear Academy’s valedictorian and will be attending Harvard University in the fall.

“I started running in 7th grade, when I wasn’t an athlete at all, I didn’t even like to sweat,” Kranchalk said. “I really did not think of myself as an athlete at all, but 6 years later, I love running and it’s really made me who I am and turned me into a life long runner.”

Dani hopes to join a running club at Harvard, but said no matter what she’ll continue to run on her own.

Cameron Rieman of Laney High School is the male recipient of the scholarship. He will be attending NC State University.

Congratulations Dani and Cameron!
