NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A portion of River Road in New Hanover County that has been closed since November will not open this weekend.
Engineers were scheduled to do a final walkthrough on Thursday, but NC Department of Transportation spokesman Brian Rick says they had to postpone it due to the weather.
Rick said they need to have a dry surface before they can complete the final touches.
The walkthrough is now scheduled for Monday, but again, that is contingent on drier conditions throughout the weekend, Rick said.
This section of River Road closed six months ago to replace the aging Lord’s Creek bridge. It was scheduled to open in mid-May, but weather delayed the process.
If there are no problems found during the final walkthrough, the bridge should open shortly thereafter.
