Shooting at post graduation party injures one in Whiteville

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) – Whiteville police are investigating after a post graduation party ended in a teenager being shot.

Police Major Alan May tells WWAY there was a shooting last night around 2:00 A.M. in the area of MLK Avenue and Main Street.
May said a graduation party was taking place. There were still about 50 people outside as the party was calming down when the shooting happened according to May.
The victim was a 17-year-old. May says the teens were leaving in a car when they heard gunfire. The car was struck several times and the victim was grazed by either a round or glass.
They drove to Columbus Regional. Police say there were no calls received about shots fired.
The victim and the others in the car were interviewed by detectives who also responded to the scene.
They along with patrol officers recovered several shell casings. Police say victim was released about 2 hours after arriving at the hospital.
