BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Severe weather brought heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning to the area Sunday. After receiving several storm reports from Bladen County, the National Weather Service in Wilmington went inland Tuesday to survey the damage.

NWS released a preliminary report stating a “microburst” 80 mph winds hit an area just north of White Lake near Autrytown Road and Johnsontown Road to Highway 701 around 10 p.m. Sunday.

The NWS describes a microburst is a downdraft with an affected overflow area of less than 2.5 miles wide with peak winds lasting less than five minutes.

The report says the strong straight-line winds caused a large limb to fall onto a car parked at a home on Autrytown Road. Dozens of trees were also damaged over a large/wide area.

No injures were reported.
