WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — After several years of no construction and changes to design plans, builders expect to break ground by the end of 2018 for the northern riverfront Pier 33 mixed-use project.
Everett Daniels, president of the project’s Raleigh developer Dewitt Carolinas, said the $65 million design will include a seven-story complex made up of 287 apartment units, nearly 24,000 square feet of retail space and a parking deck with over 500 spaces. The 4.9-acre riverfront property is located on Nutt Street in between Port City Marina and the Wilmington Convention Center.
Daniels said Dewitt Carolinas is in the final stages of negotiation with their general contractor. The plans should be finalized by the third week of August, which will verify a construction timeline and any minor design changes.
Although the details cannot be confirmed yet, Daniels said he hopes for construction to start in roughly 60 to 90 days, as well as an early 2020 completion date, after which the first phase of leasing apartment units will begin.
