New Hanover Co. Schools hosting work session, public forums on redistricting

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Last month, New Hanover County Schools unveiled new redistricting maps for middle and high school students. Now, parents have a chance to learn more about the plans and give their input.

New Hanover County School Board Chairman Ed Higgins stopped by Good Morning Carolina to talk about the ways parents can get information.

Tonight, the New Hanover County Board of Education will hold a redistricting work session at 4 p.m., in the Board of Education Center (1805 S. 13th Street). The work session is open to the community; however, public input will not be heard during this meeting. The School Board will discuss public comments received, analyze demographics and review proposed maps. This session will be videotaped by NHCS-TV and parents may watch it at a later time if they are unable to attend.

Next month, there will be three public forums for parents to attend and give input on the proposed redistricting maps.

The forums are:

Thursday, September 13 at Williston Middle School

Wednesday, September 19 at Holly Shelter Middle School

and Wednesday, September 26 at the Minnie Evans Arts Center

Each forum will be from 5:30-8 p.m. and will be recorded and aired on NHCS-TV.  For more information, visit or call (910) 254-4200.
