RICHMOND, Virginia – UNCW redshirt freshman forward Morgan Nanni has been recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association with a pair of weekly awards after her performance last weekend.
The Raleigh, N.C., product was named as the league’s Player-of-the-Week and Rookie-of-the-Week after guiding the Seahawks to the Courtyard by Marriott UNCW Soccer Invitational title. UNCW, off to a 5-1-0 start, defeated Kent State by a 4-1 margin on Friday night before blanking Cleveland State, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Nanni, who was named as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, recorded the first multi-goal game of her career when she scored twice and added an assist in the win over Cleveland State. She scored in the 31st minute to give UNCW a 1-0 lead before adding an insurance goal with 12:30 remaining.
In addition, Nanni earned an assist on the Seahawks’ second goal by junior Dominique Martinez midway through the second half.
Nanni is the CAA’s leading scorer with eight points through six games, tallying three goals with two assists.
The Seahawks venture to Coastal Carolina on Thursday evening for a 6 p.m. non-conference tilt against the Chanticleers.
