WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s a story of an unlikely friendship.
Jordan Nason says a boat ride with his family in July led him to find “Fred”, a small bright yellow tripletail fish.
He saw the fish floating on the brackish water along a creek near his backyard. Nason took out his phone, recorded a short video, and posted it on his social media accounts. While not thinking much of it at time, he kept seeing Fred day after day.
“I see him at the same dock almost every day for the last two months,” he said.
Nason has been sharing the fish tale for weeks now on his Instagram and it’s gaining attention.
“People started messaging me and people running around town telling me how much they love following Fred’s story,” Nason said. “They were the ones who told me to name him Fred.”
He says he’s not sure why it has captured the hearts of so many online but Fred’s unique and consistent appearance will keep him coming back to check on Fred.
“People started texting me and saying, ‘that’s your best bud, that’s your best friend,'” Nason said. “So I started singing that song, ‘Let me tell you about my best friend’ and people just freaked out.”
It may just be silly story, but it could give you a smile or laugh that you need.
