Two Wilmington officers injured in crash after driver runs red light

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two police officers in two separate cars were injured when a driver ran a red light in Wilmington Thursday morning.

It happened at the intersection of Third and Davis streets.

Juwuan Wright, 21, is charged with a red light violation and exceeding the speed limit.

WPD says Wright T-boned an unmarked police car. The unmarked car then collided with another unmarked vehicle with an officer inside.

One officer was transported to the hospital. Police say all three drivers had minor injures.

According to the WPD, police have issued 43 citations in 2017 for failure to yield or stop at a red light and written more than half that thus far in 2018.
