WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY)–The Whiteville High School football teams last game before the hurricane was a 31-28 loss to East Bladen, which was just about a month ago. Last Friday night the Wolfpack put that loss behind them as they hosted Fairmont and won handily 46-6. The big bounce-back win was enough to earn them this weeks Team of the Week.
“Our kids were eager to get back on the field after that tough loss. It was also our first home game of the season and I was pleased with how they battled back,” said Whiteville head coach J.P. Price.
The win last Friday night puts the Wolfpack right back in contention to take home the Three Rivers Conference title as they sit in a tie for 3rd place. If Whiteville wants to claim the title, they know it won’t be an easy task.
“We got to get out there and motivate each other. These guys out here, they have worked hard for us to get to this point,” said Junior runningback Jvonte Davis.
First and foremost their attention turns to West Bladen this upcoming Friday night.
“West Bladen has a great quarterback in Boykin, number three. He can make plays with his feet and he has a very strong arm,” said Price.
The Wolfpack have their eyes on winning the Three Rivers conference, but at the end of the day, they want to do so much more on the gridiron.
“Coach Price has been to the title game, we want to go there with him again. We want to put this school on the map. Baseball has got a lot of State Championships, but we want to put football on the map too,” said Davis.
Whiteville will host West Bladen on Friday night at Legion Stadium.
