ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY)– It’s now been over a month since Florence hit the Cape Fear coast but, some people in Pender County are still in desperate need.
To help, one woman has turned her home into a donation site.
Sarah Prevatte started receiving supplies 10 days after the storm and says every night she finds more items on her front porch.
As residents transition into moving into rental spaces, she finds people now need more than just food and water. Prevatte says they are in desperate need of men’s shoes, pots and pans, and pillows.
“My son is in his senior year of high school and I joined the parent teacher organization in kindergarten so I’ve really gotten to know these kids,” said Prevatte. “A lot of them around here call me mom and when I started finding out that my babies, not just my kids, but my babies were being evacuated and flooded it was instantly how can I help them? ”
Prevatte says she wants to do more but her house is just not big enough.
