WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s that time of year. Time for the Special Olympics!
Wednesday was the fall Special Olympics and athletes hit the field showing off their skill.
Athletes participated in games like soccer, volleyball, pumpkin bowling, and chicken runs at Legion Stadium.
It was a day filled with sport, food, family, friends and fun.
Coordinator Tiffany Lesley says it is a big day for the participants and not just for the sports.
“Today was just a day for them,” Lesley said. “A day to get active. A day for a community and really today was just a day for them to be part with, one with the community but really just having that interaction with others.”
Organizers also say the Special Olympics break down the barriers for those with special needs.
