BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — One day in jail. That’s the sentence for a former Navassa Police officer who staged a shooting in 2017.
Thomas Cutler appeared in court Tuesday.
The district attorney’s office says Cutler pleaded guilty to one count of filing a false police report and one count of obstruction of justice.
In April of 2017, Cutler claimed someone shot at him while he was sitting in his patrol car.
During a hearing in February, Cutler’s attorney said stress in his personal life and on the job led to the staged shooting.
