BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An inmate who tried to kill himself in the Brunswick County Jail over the weekend died Tuesday morning at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Dustin Kinlaw was found unresponsive in his cell Sunday afternoon.
Medical staff and detention officers began CPR and transported him to the hospital.
The sheriff’s office says Kinlaw was not under suicide watch.
He was in jail on heroin, cocaine, and marijuana charges.
An internal investigation and SBI investigation is underway.
