DINK FOR PINK: Pickleball players raise paddles to fight breast cancer

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland is a known hot spot for pickleball. This week nearly 275 people picked up their paddles for the 3rd Annual Dink for Pickleball Tournament.

Competitors were on the courts at the House of Pickleball in Leland Thursday playing for a good cause.

The tournament benefits Lump for Laughter, a non-profit dedicated to supporting those diagnosed with breast cancer.

The event started Wednesday and continues through the weekend.

Event Organizer Richard Holloman says the cause speaks for it’s self.

“Lump to Laughter is the organization that we are supporting and we raise a lot of money for them as we have baskets put together that we auction off and a dinner Friday night at WWAY,” Holloman said. “It’s a whole week event and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of it.”

A fundraiser dinner will be held at the WWAY Event Center, 1224 Magnolia Village Way in Leland, Friday night. WWAY’s Helen Holt is the Mistress of Ceremonies.

Raffle baskets, valued between $480-$2,000, are located at the Brunswick Forest Fitness Center until 2 p.m. Friday. Tickets for it are available to the public and the winners will be drawn at the dinner.
