WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY)–It has been a season of ups and down for the Whiteville boys basketball team.
The Wolfpack have went stretches where they have lost five games in a row , but also won four in a row. Whiteville picked up their biggest win of the season last Friday night beating the current conference leaders West Columbus, 60-59.
“We knew we needed that game for the conference. We had something to loose, they didn’t. We are just trying to get back into the playoffs,”said Wolfpack junior Antonio McFadden.
Whiteville suffered a tough loss at home on Tuesday night to St. Pauls and will now be sporting a 14-9 record headed into their regular season finale. The team knows with a younger roster, that every night on the court is another chance to get better.
“Most of the team is full of sophomores and juniors. We are very young, but we are more advanced. Coach is working us hard everyday in practice. That is all we do, work hard every day to be better,”said Whiteville sophomore Wendell Smith.
Friday night will be another huge task for the young Wolfpack team. They will travel down Highway 701 to take on the red hot South Columbus Stallions. The Stallions pulled out the 75-68 win the last time these two matched up. Whiteville knows that if they want to accomplish their goal it starts with the “motto” they have adopted.
“You can’t spell challenge without change and they’ve adopted that. Every night in practice we change things, every night in games we try to change things. We do those things to be better for the betterment of our team,”said Wolfpack head coach Jerry Singletary.
