Police investigating double stabbing in Navassa


NAVASSA, NC (WWAY) — Police in Navassa are investigating a stabbing Thursday evening that happened in an area behind the Navassa Mini Mart.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office told us police responded just before 7:45 p.m. to a portion of Plum Street. Police say one of the suspects fled from the residence to nearby Broadway Street.

Navassa police Captain Scott Perez tells us two men stabbed one another as a result of an altercation at the residence along Plum Street.

Those men have been identified as Keith Richardson Alston, 53, and Anthony Canty, 47.

Both have been charge with assault with a deadly weapon and face $30,000 secured bonds.

Leland Fire and Rescue also responded and took the victims to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, according to Northwest police officials who were assisting in the investigation.

Captain Perez says both men suffered non life threatening injuries. He adds that they will face criminal charges in relation to the fight.
