Man who ran from Leland traffic stop still on the run


LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland Police say when they attempted to stop the driver of an SUV that was driving aggressively, the man got out and ran.

It happened just before 11:00 p.m. Thursday on Highway 17 near the Best Western.

Leland Police Lt. Jeremy Humphries says the man was driving a 2001 GMC Suburban.

The man ran toward the wooded area.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit came to help try and track the man, but at this time, no one is in custody.

There were other passengers in the car at the time, but none of them face charges.

The SUV was towed by Leland Police.

Humphries says their officers are currently following up on leads.
