Teen killed in overnight shooting; first Wilmington homicide of 2019


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old late last night.

According to a news release officers responded to the 700 block of Emory Street in Creekwood South around 11:10 p.m. for a ShotSpotter notification. When they got there, police found the victim with gunshot wounds and immediately began administering life-saving measures until EMS arrived. EMS transported the victim to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he died.

Police say no other details are available at this time. They say more information will be released as it becomes available.

This is the first homicide of 2019 in the city.
