WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–In just the second season at the helm of UNCW women’s basketball Karen Barefoot led the Seahawks to a 13-1 record at home.
The Seahawks capped off their outstanding season at home on Sunday beating the Delaware Blue Hens, 72-64. UNCW had their lead cut down to two points with just under two minutes to go in the game, but the Seahawks closed the game on a 8-2 run to secure the win.
“I told coach Barefoot down the stretch I’m good, I’m good. So, when I got the ball I just tried to do the best thing I could,”said UNCW senior Chinyere Bell.
UNCW has already shattered their win total of 12 from last season, Sundays win was their 16th on the year. The most impressive stat though for the Seahawks was their 13-1 record at home.
“There is an expectation now to wear teal and a pride feeling. We got after it in the second half and really focused on the defensive end. I think that’s where we took our pride all year,”said UNCW women’s basketball head coach Karen Barefoot.
The Seahawks will end their season with three straight games on the road. That begins this upcoming Friday night against Northeastern.
