TABOR CITY, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with neighboring law enforcement agencies to conduct a checking station over the weekend.
The operation yielded dozens of traffic and criminal violations.
“The goal of this combined enforcement effort was to ensure compliance of the motor vehicle codes and to reduce motor vehicle accidents, injuries, and death associated with impaired driving,” CCSO stated in a news release.
Forensic Test for Alcohol Branch of NCDHHS was on scene with their Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit. The unit is equipped with a Magistrate Office, multiple breath alcohol testing stations equipped with Evidential Breath Alcohol testing instruments, finger printing equipment, and other necessities required to conduct a large scale checking station.
The checkpoint was set up for four hours Saturday at the intersection of NC 904 East and NC 905.
As a result of this operation, 63 traffic and criminal violations were issued. Six arrests were made including four narcotics arrests, one failure to appear on narcotics charges from Bladen County, and one child support violation.
Aubrey Juan Savannah, 19, of Lumberton was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Simple Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (CS), Simple Possession of Schedule IV CS, PWIMSD Schedule I CS, and Carrying a Concealed Gun.
Elijah Thomas West, 20, of Lumberton was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana.
Justin Shawn Lindsay, 19, of Lumberton was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Simple Possession of Schedule II CS, Simple Possession of Schedule IV CS, and Maintaining a Vehicle.
Terence Kelly Lee, 19, of Tabor City was arrested and charged with PWIMSD Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia.
Zachary Cole Griffin, 18, of Lumberton was arrested on a Bladen County warrant for failure to appear on 2018 narcotics charges.
William Barkley Spain III was arrested for non-payment of a child support order.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Forensic Test for Alcohol Branch of NCDHHS, Columbus County Magistrate S. Norris, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Tabor City Police Department, Whiteville Police Department, Chadbourn Police Department all assisted in the checkpoint.
