Police: Man lit Valentine’s Day cards, gift bags in boyfriend’s tub after breakup

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) — A Myrtle Beach man has been charged with arson after police say he lit Valentine’s Day cards and gift bags on fire in his boyfriend’s bathtub after they broke up.

Curtis David McCoy, 44, has been charged with arson, second degree after police were called to a structure fire on 5th Avenue North at about 6:40 p.m. on Feb. 18.

When police arrived, they found a fire had been put out in the bathtub of an apartment by the property manager. Nobody was home at the apartment.

Once reached, the tenant told police his former boyfriend had been living with him for the last month and they mutually decided to break up. They agreed the former boyfriend would gather his belongings and be out of the apartment by 4 p.m. that day, according to the report.
