CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Most people stick with traditional pets like dogs, cats and birds, but some folks in Carolina Beach would prefer to go bold with a Vietnamese Pot-bellied pig.
There have been a few complaints from landlords because these pigs can weigh up to 200 pounds, meaning that they can cause a lot of mess on their properties.
The Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning Committee is pushing to establish an ordinance that will prohibit these exotic pets.
“The reasoning that we’re wanting to bring it forward is just the nuisance they can create,” Planning and Zoning Asst. Director Jeremy Hardison said. “It was tearing up the yard, there was flies, there was a smell, these were some of the complaints that we were hearing.”
The final decision on whether the ordinance will be passed or not will be made on April 9.
