WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–Tuesday night ended the high school basketball season for teams in the Cape Fear region.
The Laney girls battled on the road at the No.2 seed Southeast Raleigh , but couldn’t overcome the Bulldogs height falling 53-34. Laney’s Saniya Rivers led all scorers with 21 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Bucs end the year with a 28-2 record.
The West Columbus boys had the No.1 seed Washington County on the ropes for much of the first half in Plymouth. Washington County was able to pull away from the Vikings in the third quarter outscoring West Columbus 21-9. That run padded the Panthers lead as they held on for the 65-52 win to advance to the Regional Championships later this week.
West Columbus sees their season come to an end with an impressive 24-5 record under head coach W. T. Edwards II.
