Carolina Beach Police Department designated ‘Safe Trade Station’

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Looking for a place to safely exchange things you buy and sell online? Carolina Beach Police say you can come to them.

The department says it has established a location for trade, bartering and sales transactions. Popular online trade sites such as Facebook Market Place, Craigslist, Offer Up and Letgo provide users opportunities to sell and exchange goods and services. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office started a similar set-up outside its headquarters on Juvenile Center Drive in the northern end of the county in 2016.

“While these transactions provide our community an opportunity to resale and repurpose useful items, some may hesitate because of safety concerns. These locations offer a safe alternative for individuals to meet and perform trade or sales transactions,” Carolina Beach Police Chief Chris Spivey said in a news release.

The established Safe Trade Station is at the Carolina Beach Police Department at 1121 North Lake Park Blvd. The area has clearly posted Safe Trade signage in a well-lit area with 24-hour surveillance cameras. Additionally, this location has a high volume of vehicular traffic and commercial businesses.

The police department says Safe Trade patrons are welcome to perform transactions in the front lobby of the police department Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The department lobby is unavailable on weekends and holidays. You can reach the Carolina Beach Police Department (910) 458-2540. In an emergency you can always call 911.
