WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The red carpet experience here in Wilmington.
Over the weekend, One Love Tennis and the Pointe 14 Theatre hosted a premiere screening of the new documentary film, “Althea & Arthur”.
The invitation-only event included valet parking, red carpet entrance, lobby reception surrounded by the Breaking The Barriers Exhibit from the International Tennis Hall of Fame and following the film there was a Q&A with Lenny Simpson, who not only appears in the film but kids from his One Love Tennis program are prominently featured throughout the documentary.
“Althea & Arthur” stars One Love kids along with tennis legends Lenny Simpson, Johnnie Ashe, Billie Jean King, Katrina Adams, Venus Williams, James Blake and many more. This documentary contrasts the careers of the first African-American woman and man to break the color barriers in tennis and explains their very different legacies.
For those from Wilmington, NC, this is important history as both world champions have direct connections to Dr. Hubert and Celeste Eaton’s house at 1406 Orange Street, having lived and trained on the historic, iconic backyard court.
The film will be shown for the public to view on just three days.
- Friday, March 8 at 6:15pm
- Saturday, March 9 at 6:15pm
- Tuesday, March 12 at 6:15pm
Coach Lenny Simpson will host a Q&A following each showing.
