Healthcare aide accused of stealing thousands from former Whiteville mayor

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A woman working as a healthcare aide is accused of stealing thousands from Whiteville’s former mayor.

52-year-old Earlene Locklear is charged with felony larceny and nearly two dozen counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

Whiteville Police say Locklear worked for Former Mayor Ann Jones.

The thefts took place between February and May of 2018. Jones died in November at the age of 90.

Locklear was arrested in Horry County and is being held under a $48,000 bond.
