The Oak Island Fire Department and the Oak Island Police Department requested assistance from the NC State Bureau of Investigation and Alcohol Tobacco Firearms to help determine the cause.

According to a news release, the SBI and ATF met with Oak Island PD at the site of the fire and police department on Tuesday. While the cause is still undetermined, the SBI and ATF expect to provide police and fire crews with the results of the investigation in about 30 days.

The owner of the motel, Walter Lorgan, has owned the Ocean Crest Motel for almost 20 years. When WWAY last spoke with him, he wasn’t sure whether he was going to rebuild.
