WILMINGTON, NC (UNCW SPORTS) — Junior infielder Dominique Travers of UNCW has been named as the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Player-of-the-Week after leading the Seahawks at the Jacksonville/UNF Spring Break Challenge last weekend.
Travers, a native of Montclair, Va., hit .500 in the five-game tournament with six runs scored and three home runs as the Seahawks went 4-1 in the tournament. She also drove in five runs during the weekend, including a RBI in four of the team’s five games.
In addition, Travers blasted a home run in three of the five contests, upping her team-leading total to six home runs on the season.
“I have been so impressed watching Dominique play this year no matter what her role has been,” Coach Kristy Norton said. “Whether she is starting at first base or as the designated player, she accepts it and does her best to deliver for her team. She has worked incredibly hard this year to be the best she can be for her team.”
A starter in 22 games this season, Travers is the Seahawks’ fourth-leading hitter with a .297 average while scoring a team-high 15 runs.
UNCW, 13-10 on the season, returns home this weekend to welcome Canisius, Eastern Kentucky and Youngstown State for the Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Fayetteville Seahawk Softball Invitational at Boseman Field.
