The bill will now be presented before the rules committee, before it moves on for a vote on the NC House floor.

Lawmakers unveiled the new bill earlier this month in honor of late Tpr. Conner, who was shot and killed the morning of October 17.

The bill is aimed at enhancing the penalties for assaults on law enforcement officers and increasing the death benefits for families of fallen officers.

Raheem Davis was arrested and charged with the trooper’s murder. A second suspect, Chauncy Askew, was arrested in South Carolina several days later.
