Lightning strike causes damage to condos in Southport

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A condo in Southport was struck by lightning early Thursday morning.

According to Southport Assistant Fire Chief Todd Coring, a call came around 6 a.m. regarding a condo struck by lightning on Marina View Drive.

When firefighters arrived, they found electrical damage to the rear of the home as well as charring and damage to electrical components, Coring said.

No one in the condo was injured. There was also damage to some of the other nearby condo unites.

Workers with Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation also responded to the scene. They cleared the scene by 6:30 a.m.
