SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of boots are on display outside the fire headquarters in Southport in remembrance of September 11, 2001.
343 boots honor the 343 firefighters that were killed during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center 18 years ago. More than 2,700 died that day.
The City of Southport shared a video of Tuesday’s ceremony.
During it, Southport Fire Chief Todd Coring and Fire Chief Charles Drew made remarks along with a wreath laying.
A flag lowering with Taps ceremony will be take place at 7:30 p.m. at the fire station.
The Southport Fire Headquarters is located at 1011 N. Howe Street.
