MARION COUNTY, SC (WPDE) — Wednesday marks exactly one year since two women were killed after the HCSO transport van off Highway 76 in Marion County.
Wendy Newton, 45, of Shallotte, and Nicolette Green, 43, of Myrtle Beach, were in the back of that van. They were both mental health patients.
“We thought this was routine. We’ve been through it countless times. She goes to the hospital to get help, she transports off somewhere, and she always comes home,” Allison Newton, Wendy Newton’s daughter, said.
In the last year, the family of Wendy Newton said not a lot has changed; they continue to mourn and wait for justice to be served.
“I think about the water rising. I think about her knowing that she’s going to die. I think about the fear that she had of water,” Sarah Shoun, Wendy Newton’s mother, said.
