NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)– A busy September in the tropics. Hurricane Dorian brushed our coast just after Labor Day, but didn’t pack the punch of Hurricane Florence.
Whether it’s a fast storm, or a slow moving storm, the New Hanover County Emergency Operations Center is prepared.
Assistant Director of Emergency Management, Anna McRay says they spend the year looking at different threats and hazards, assessing their impacts.
McRay says all county employees have a role in disaster response, but they may not all be needed.
“Depending on what the impacts of the events might be in the region, we may go to a partial re-activation, which is where we bring in parts of our staff,” McRay said.
McRay says its important to make preparedness kits. For a checklist of what to include in your kit, click here.
