BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Bladen County Sheriff K9 is being credited with finding a missing elderly man earlier this month.
The sheriff’s office says deputies and Clarkton Fire Department were dispatched to 3000 Block of Elkton Road in Clarkton on October around 7 p.m. to a report of a missing man.
Family says he wandered away from his home and were concerned because he had a cognitive disability.
Sgt. Daniel Clark and K9 Jaxx of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area to search for him. The duo found the missing person in an overgrown field several hundred yards from the family’s home.
The man wasn’t hurt but was transported by EMS to a medical facility to be evaluated.
“Sgt. Clark and Jaxx do a great job for our Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Jim McVicker said. “This situation could have ended much differently if this individual had not been found when he was. Our K9’s are a valuable resource that help us in all kinds of situations, from missing persons, man hunts for suspects, drug searches and officer safety. We are glad to have them as part of our team as well as the Clarkton Fire Department that did an outstanding job keeping the area secured for our K9 to work.We appreciate the relationship that we have with our fire departments and emergency services.”
